Pungwe-Mutare HydroXS
Project Overview
Project Name: Pungwe–Mutare HydroXS Green Energy Recovery
Project Status: Detailed Feasibility Stage
Location: Manicaland, Zimbabwe
Technology: InPipe Energy – HydroXS In-Conduit Hydropower
The Pungwe–Mutare HydroXS Project is a municipal embedded renewable energy initiative designed to recover wasted hydraulic pressure within the existing Pungwe–Mutare gravity-fed raw water transmission system supplying the City of Mutare, in Manicaland, Zimbabwe.

Technical Summary
The project utilizes the existing 46.4 km gravity-fed GRP water pipeline transferring raw water from the Pungwe River to the Odzani Water Treatment Works. The system operates entirely under gravity flow conditions and currently dissipates significant hydraulic pressure through conventional break pressure infrastructure.
The HydroXS® M16 system replaces pressure dissipation with energy recovery while maintaining full hydraulic control and uninterrupted municipal water supply.

Strategic Value
The Pungwe–Mutare HydroXS Project demonstrates how existing municipal water infrastructure can be transformed into distributed renewable energy assets without constructing dams or altering river systems.
The project establishes a replicable model for:
municipal energy recovery,
embedded clean power generation,
utility cost reduction,
and climate-resilient infrastructure deployment across Africa.
